About Rhinoplasty
Rhinoplasty, commonly known as a nose job, is one of the most popular and precise cosmetic surgeries.
It is performed to reshape the nose, enhance facial harmony, and, in some cases, improve breathing function.
The surgery can involve:
• Reducing or increasing the size of the nose
• Refining the nasal tip or nostrils
• Removing a nasal hump or correcting asymmetry
• Straightening a deviated septum to improve airflow

Types of Rhinoplasty
1. Open Rhinoplasty
• A small incision is made across the columella (the skin between the nostrils).
• Allows the surgeon better visibility and precision for major corrections.
2. Closed Rhinoplasty
• All incisions are made inside the nostrils, leaving no visible scar.
• Causes less swelling and bruising but is suitable only for minor reshaping.

Pre-Operative Instructions
To minimize complications and achieve the best results, it’s essential to follow these steps before surgery:
🔹 1. Consultation and Medical Evaluation
• Meet with your surgeon to discuss goals, expectations, and medical history.
• Inform your doctor about any chronic conditions (e.g., diabetes, hypertension, allergies, or heart problems).
• If you have breathing issues or septal deviation, a corrective procedure may be done simultaneously.
🔹 2. Preparation Before Surgery
• Two weeks before surgery: Stop taking blood-thinning medications such as aspirin, ibuprofen, vitamin E, and herbal supplements.
• Avoid smoking or vaping at least two weeks before and after surgery (it delays healing).
• Complete all required lab tests (blood work, ECG, and chest X-ray if needed).
• Eat a light dinner the night before surgery, and do not eat or drink anything for 8 hours before the operation.
⸻
Post-Operative Care
🔹 1. First 24 Hours
• Rest with your head elevated (use two pillows).
• Apply cold compresses on cheeks and around the eyes to reduce swelling and bruising.
• Avoid blowing your nose, talking too much, or laughing excessively.
• If light bleeding occurs, gently change the dressing under the nose as instructed by your surgeon.
🔹 2. First Week
• The nasal splint is usually removed after 5–7 days.
• Eat soft and cool foods; avoid hot or hard meals.
• Sneeze with your mouth open to reduce pressure on the nose.
• Refrain from exercise, bending forward, or lifting heavy objects for about 2 weeks.
• Do not wear glasses or sunglasses for several weeks to prevent pressure on the nasal bones.
🔹 3. Skin and Wound Care
• Avoid direct sunlight and high heat exposure — the nasal skin will be sensitive.
• Clean the inside of your nose with saline spray as prescribed.
• Apply sunscreen regularly to protect the healing skin.
🔹 4. Healing Timeline
• Swelling, especially at the nasal tip, may persist for several months.
• The final shape of the nose is usually seen after 6–12 months.
⸻
Final Notes
• Patience and consistent care are essential for a beautiful and natural outcome.
• Every nose is unique — avoid comparing your results to others.
• Contact your surgeon
immediately if you experience fever, heavy bleeding, or unusual pain.
